In
Philadelphia and on the east coast, Robert "Bootsie" Barnes is known
as the Prime Minister of the tenor saxophone. All who play with him have total
respect for his creativity as a bopper and romanticist.
Bootsie has experienced a wide range of associations in his career. In national and international settings, he has performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Randy Brecker, Stevie Wonder, "Papa" and Joey DeFrancesco, George Benson, Philly Joe Jones and Richard Waters, among others.
He has also worked with the world's greatest organ jammers such as Jack McDuff, Jimmy McGriff, Shirley Scott and the man known as the "boss man of the organ," Jimmy Smith.
For two years, he toured with Bill Cosby in his opening act that included an appearance on the Cosby show as an actor. This is Bootsie's third album as a leader.
